Pond hockey rules:

All helpers who support our pond hockey tournament at Weissensee as referees or officials are committed voluntarily.
It is all the more important for us as organizers - and also for the benefit of all ice hockey fans - that all players always respect each other and the referees behave respectfully.

We welcome enthusiasm and healthy ambition on the ice, but we do Misconduct towards our volunteers will not be tolerated. Verbal or physical attacks on the referee or the official team will result in immediate exclusion from the tournament.

Please remember: Pond Hockey is all about Fun, team spirit and fair play. It is not an official form of competition, but a game that takes place on a small area at high speed. That's why it has Security everyone – players, fans, spectators and referees – top priority.

We therefore ask all participants to behave fairly and respectfully at all times. It is each team's responsibility to familiarize themselves with the tournament rules before play begins.

  • Faceoff: In the middle of the ice - only at the beginning of the game. The referee does not enter the ice surface. Both teams line up three-on-three, the two face-off players have the stick on the ground, the puck is in the middle (no throw-in). The game begins at the referee's whistle.
  • The gross playing time is 14 minutes in the group stage and 12 minutes in the playoffs. Exact playing times can be seen in tournament mode. If a team does not show up for the game on time or at all, the game will be scored 0:5 against the team that did not show up.
  • Goals cannot be scored from your own half of the court (even if the puck deflects off a defender's stick or skate). Goals can only be scored in the attacking half, i.e. behind the halfway line.
  • Slapshots/snapshots/slap shots or too hard wrist shots are prohibited. All players carefully consider their shots so as not to endanger other players on the field, spectators or other people.
  • There is no offside or illegal clearance shot.

Pucks that leave the ice are returned into play by the team that did not last touch the puck.

The defending team must maintain a distance of at least one stick length from the player returning the puck to the closest possible location to where the puck left the court.

The player with the puck must attempt a pass (not a shot on goal) to continue play. The referees are equipped with spare pucks so that the game can continue without delay.

Since the game runs very quickly and the referees cannot see all the actions, the players are asked to behave fairly. Each player is required to do his or her part to support the referee in deciding who last touched the puck before leaving the ice.

  • Goaltending - No player may throw himself on the ice in front of the goal, kneel on the ice, block the goal with his skates closer than one meter from the goal, throw or place his stick in front of the goal, or stand in front of the net to prevent the other team from scoring.

If this happens anyway, the referee raises his hand and warns the defending team. If the referee's repeated warnings are not respected, the referee blows his whistle and can award a goal to the attacking team.

-> Puck Verlust
  • Physical contact and body checks of any kind are prohibited.

Basic violations such as tripping, hacking, caning or obstruction are considered “minor penalties”.

The same rules apply to stick handling as in ice hockey. High stick - contact with the puck above waist height - results in a minor penalty, safety first.

You may not shoot higher than the height of your skates or pass to another player.

Slap shots are not allowed, the sticks must remain on the ice → minor penalty

  • Minor penalty means loss of puck. In the event of repeated offenses, the referee can award a technical goal for the opposing team even after a warning.
  • Each team is assigned to a half of the game; the referee can also decide this if necessary. There is a bench next to the field for the substitutes.

If a change is made incorrectly, there will be a warning. The referee can also decide that a team loses the puck. If the offense is repeated, a goal can also be awarded.

  • The tournament management reserves the right to exclude players who pose a danger to themselves and others from the tournament.
  • If the rules are violated, the referees have the discretion to award the opposing team a goal or possession of the puck.
  • After the game, both teams ensure that the playing surface is free of snow and ice chips.

As a rule, the losing team is responsible for cleaning the ice. Snow pushers and shovels will be provided at each playing field.

Severe penalties:

  • Any kind of insult or attack on the referee will be punished as a severe penalty. Penalties of this type include excessive swearing, yelling, arguing, and any physical altercation over a referee's decision.
  • Severe penalties or incidents that endanger the safety of players, volunteers and spectators will result in the immediate exclusion of the responsible player from the tournament. The referee can also decide on a technical goal.

Draw:

  • In the group phase, a draw is possible as a result of the game. As soon as the signal sounds, the game is over.
  • In the knockout round, if there is a draw, a 3-minute extra time is played, possibly followed by a “shoot out” with 3 shooters from the halfway line at the empty goal.
